The Assistant Finance Manager / General Ledger Accountant is responsible for managing the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records, supporting financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, inventory accounting, and compliance activities. The position assists the Finance Manager in overseeing the finance function and ensuring effective internal controls within the hypermarket. Key Duties and Responsibilities General Ledger Management Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger (GL) and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded. Review, prepare, and post journal entries. Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis. Ensure proper account classification and coding. Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances. Financial Reporting Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Support month-end and year-end closing processes. Generate management reports and financial analysis. Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial reports. Budgeting and Financial Analysis Assist in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgets. Conduct variance analysis and recommend corrective actions. Support profitability and cost analysis initiatives. Inventory and Cost Accounting Monitor inventory valuation and stock movement accounting. Review stock adjustments, write-offs, and transfers. Coordinate physical inventory counts and reconciliations. Analyze inventory shrinkage and recommend control measures. Cash and Banking Management Review daily cash positions and cash flow reports. Monitor bank transactions and perform bank reconciliations. Support treasury and working capital management activities. Ensure proper control of cash handling procedures. Compliance and Internal Control Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies. Support internal and external audit activities. Maintain proper documentation and accounting records. Strengthen internal control systems and risk management procedures. Tax Administration Assist in preparing tax declarations and statutory filings. Ensure timely submission of VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations. Support tax audits and regulatory inspections. Team Leadership and Support Supervise and support accountants and finance staff when assigned. Provide technical guidance on accounting matters. Participate in staff development and training programs. Act on behalf of the Finance Manager when delegated. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is highly desirable. Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is an added advantage. Experience Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience. At least 2–3 years in a senior accounting, General Ledger, or supervisory role.
