Job Title: General Accountant We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced General Accountant to oversee the supermarket's day-to-day financial operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing accounting activities, inventory and cash controls, financial reporting, tax compliance, payroll processing, and supporting management with financial analysis. The role also includes supervising junior accounting staff and ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory regulations. Key Responsibilities • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by recording daily transactions, managing the general ledger, and performing account reconciliations. • Prepare financial reports, including trial balances, balance sheets, income statements, and month-end/year-end closing entries. • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including processing payments, preparing customer invoices, monitoring outstanding balances, and ensuring timely collections. • Prepare bank transfers, monitor bank account activities, reconcile bank statements, and maintain accurate banking records. • Ensure all cash transactions, vouchers, and supporting documents are properly authorized, recorded, and securely filed. • Reconcile daily sales, POS transactions, cash collections, credit card settlements, and safe balances. • Monitor inventory movements, conduct periodic stock counts, and reconcile inventory records, including waste and spoilage. • Process employee payroll, travel and work advances, and ensure timely settlement of advances. • Prepare and submit monthly tax declarations, ensure timely payment of statutory obligations, and maintain compliance with applicable financial regulations. • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and required documentation. • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, bookkeepers, and cashiers while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. • Maintain organized and confidential financial records and perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned to support the Finance Department. Required Skills & Competencies • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting. • Proficiency in Peachtree, QuickBooks , and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. • Experience with inventory management and POS reconciliation. • Good understanding of Ethiopian tax regulations and statutory compliance. • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. • Open-minded, adaptable, and eager to learn new systems and practices. Academic Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, or a related field. Experience • Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a supermarket, retail, or FMCG environment.
