Purpose of the Post MdM Germany is looking for a qualified Midwife to support the delivery of quality sexual and reproductive health and maternal and child health (MCH) services, ensuring safe and timely care at the Qoloji IDP Camp for crisis-affected populations. Essential Duties and responsibilities The midwife will be responsible for supporting the full package of MCH services in one of Qoloji Health Centre (HC) and creating demand from the communities. S/he will: • Build the capacity of Health Centre health staff to deal with MCH/SRH services, including timely referral to near hospital • Coordinate and work closely with the Community mobilizer to ensure all services are accessed by the beneficiaries. • Work closely with the health team of the health center • Ensure smooth implementation of the project activities. Priority tasks & responsibilities • Mentor the government health staff in the provision of MCH/SRH services (ANC, PNC, Family Panning, Comprehensive Abortion Care; and delivery) and implement quality training and follow up based on national standards and guidelines; • Assess the priority gaps and develop an action plan; • Train the staff on infection prevention and control (IPC) • Support the provision of compassionate and respectful care at the HC to the beneficiaries. • Demonstrate behavior that upholds the public trust in the services provided. • Identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to doctors and other medical specialists. • Arrange and provide parenting and health education in relation to the needs of the woman, her partners and family members. • Encourage participation of family members in the birth to support the mother and enhance both mother/baby bonding and family relationships generally. • Support the Health Center staff to diagnose, monitor and examine women during pregnancy & postnatal periods. • Support in the provision of full antenatal care, including screening tests in the health center. • Support the Health Center midwives to attend normal deliveries and assess complicated deliveries for referrals. • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. • Plans and requests quarterly requirements of medicines and materials for maternity & delivery ward. • Supervises and assists mothers in labor, monitoring the condition of the fetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management. • Give support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breast feeding, bathing, and making up feeds. • Liaise with agencies and other medical practitioners to ensure continuity of care • Organize health education sessions for the patients and the community. • Conduct outreach of sensitization sessions in coordination with the Community Mobilizer. • Spread main messages about health education for the following topics: immunization, antenatal care, post-natal care, assisted institutional delivery, family planning, at-risk pregnancies, and Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF). • Attend to other tasks as may be assigned by the line manager This job description covers the main tasks that are anticipated. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary. Hierarchical & Functional links The Midwife will be based at Qoloji Health Centres in the Somali Region. She/He will work under the direct supervision of the Project Health Officer based in Qoloji and will report to the same Project Health Officer.
