We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly analytical Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing general ledger activities, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, and maintaining robust internal controls. Key Responsibilities 1. Daily Recording & Transaction Management • General Ledger Maintenance: Oversee the accurate and timely recording of all daily financial transactions into the accounting system (e.g., Peachtree/Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP). • Reconciliations: Perform regular bank, cash, and supplier/customer account reconciliations to ensure data accuracy and resolve discrepancies immediately. • Payroll Processing: Oversee the monthly payroll preparation, ensuring accurate calculation of basic salary, allowances, overtime, and statutory deductions. • Petty Cash Management: Review and approve petty cash replenishments, ensuring all expenses are supported by valid, legal receipts. 2. Ethiopian Tax & Statutory Compliance • Tax Declarations: Prepare, review, and submit monthly tax declarations to the Ministry of Revenues (MoR) via the e-tax system or in person. This includes: • Value Added Tax • Withholding Tax • Employment Income Tax • Pension Contributions • TASS • Annual Taxes: Calculate and prepare annual business profit tax returns and ensure timely settlement to avoid penalties. • Regulatory Updates: Stay actively updated on new directives and proclamations from the MoR and Customs Commission, adjusting internal financial practices accordingly. 3. Month-End & Year-End Closing • Adjusting Entries: Prepare month-end and year-end closing entries, including prepayments, accruals, and amortization. • Asset Management: Maintain an accurate fixed asset register and calculate monthly depreciation in accordance with both IFRS standards and Ethiopian tax law allowances. • Inventory: Oversee periodic and year-end inventory counts and valuations. 4. Financial Reporting & Audit (IFRS) • Financial Statements: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements • IFRS Compliance: Ensure all financial reports strictly adhere to IFRS (or IFRS for SMEs), as required by AABE. • Audit Facilitation: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Prepare audit schedules, trial balances, and provide all necessary documentation to ensure a smooth annual audit process. • Financial Analysis: Provide management with variance analysis (budget vs. actuals) and cash flow forecasts to support strategic decision-making. Requirements and Qualifications • Education: BA or MA Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a recognized university. • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance. • Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software widely used in Ethiopia (e.g., Peachtree/Sage 50, QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. • Deep, practical understanding of Ethiopian tax laws, commercial codes, and the e-tax declaration process. • Proven experience transitioning to or maintaining IFRS reporting standards.
