ISHDO is seeking to recruit a qualified and motivated SPELL Classes Supervisor to lead the day to day implementation of the SPELL (Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life) Program in Deedoo Woreda, Jimma Zone. The position will support effective planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities funded by the Luminos Fund. Project Overview Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life (SPELL) is an evidence-based education intervention model designed to improve foundational literacy outcomes for Grade 1 students in mainstream primary schools in Oromia region. The SPELL model supports effective literacy instruction by providing Grade 1 Literacy teachers with structured daily lesson plans aligned with the curriculum, practice-based professional development training, and ongoing instructional coaching and mentoring. Coaching support is delivered regularly by trained school leaders to strengthen teachers’ pedagogical skills, improve classroom instruction, and ensure the effective implementation of literacy teaching practices. Through this integrated approach, SPELL aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, improve students' foundational reading skills, and create sustainable systems of instructional support within schools. • Job Title: SPELL Classes Supervisor • Project : Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life (SPELL) Project • Required Number: 4 (Four) • Duty Station : Jimma Town, Oromia Region • Project Sites: Target Primary Schools in Deedoo Woreda, Jimma Zone • Reports To: SPELL Project Coordinator • Employment Type: Full-Time Job Purpose The SPELL Classes Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day technical and operational support to SPELL learning centers and schools. The position ensures quality implementation of project activities through regular monitoring, coaching, mentoring, data management, stakeholder coordination, and continuous support to teachers and facilitators to improve learning outcomes for children participating in the SPELL program. Key Duties and Responsibilities Program Implementation and Supervision • Closely monitor, supervise, and provide regular technical support to SPELL classes to ensure effective implementation of project activities and achievement of quality learning outcomes. • Ensure that project activities are implemented in accordance with approved plans, guidelines, and quality standards. • Support schools and learning centers in addressing implementation challenges and identifying practical solutions. Monitoring, Coaching, and Mentoring • Conduct regular visits to schools and learning centers to monitor project implementation and classroom practices. • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to facilitators, teachers, and school leaders to strengthen instructional quality and learner engagement. • Support continuous improvement of teaching methodologies and classroom management practices aligned with the SPELL approach. Capacity Building and Training Support • Organize, facilitate, and follow up on teacher training, refresher training, and professional development activities. • Support the effective application of knowledge and skills gained through training and coaching sessions. • Identify capacity gaps among teachers and facilitators and recommend appropriate support measures. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting • Collect, verify, analyze, and submit routine project data, reports, and monitoring information accurately and on time. • Maintain accurate records of project activities, attendance, assessments, and implementation progress. • Prepare regular monitoring reports and share findings and recommendations with the Project Coordinator. Student Assessment and Learning Monitoring • Support the implementation of student assessments and learning achievement monitoring activities. • Track student attendance, participation, retention, and performance indicators. • Analyze assessment findings and support schools and facilitators in using results to improve teaching and learning processes. Stakeholder Coordination and Community Engagement • Coordinate and maintain strong working relationships with schools, community structures, parents, and education office stakeholders. • Facilitate communication and collaboration among project stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and sustainability of project activities. • Participate in coordination meetings, review sessions, and community engagement activities as required. Compliance and Administrative Responsibilities • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, project procedures, and donor requirements. • Support the documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and best practices. • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator that contribute to the successful implementation of the SPELL project.
