Job description
Senior Structural Engineer Role Overview The Senior Structural Engineer leads the structural design, analysis, and engineering delivery for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will be responsible for leading design teams, preparing complex structural calculations, signing off on construction documents, and ensuring projects meet safety standards, local codes, budget constraints, and client requirements. You will work closely with clients, architects, contractors, and project managers, providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineering staff. Key Responsibilities 1. Structural Analysis & Design Leadership • Lead the structural design and analysis for diverse structural systems, including reinforced concrete, steelwork, timber, masonry, and foundation systems. • Perform complex manual and computational structural calculations to ensure load-bearing safety, seismic resilience, wind load resistance, and serviceability. • Develop innovative, efficient, and sustainable structural solutions tailored to architectural visions and site constraints. 2. Project Management & Delivery • Act as the technical lead on major projects, managing scope, design budgets, resources, and deliverable timelines from concept through construction administration. • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and 3D BIM models prior to submission. • Coordinate interdisciplinary work with architects, MEP engineers, civil engineers, and general contractors to ensure seamless integration. 3. Site Supervision & Construction Support • Review contractor submittals, Shop Drawings, RFIs (Requests for Information), and material certificates. • Conduct site inspections and structural assessments to verify construction compliance with engineering specifications, drawings, and building codes. • Address unforeseen structural challenges on-site and issue field design modifications promptly. 4. Team Mentorship & Quality Assurance • Mentor and supervise junior engineers, technicians, and drafters, providing technical guidance and peer-reviewing their work. • Enforce internal QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) procedures, engineering standards, and local building codes (e.g., Eurocodes, IBC/ACI/AISC, or local regional regulations). • Participate in business development efforts, including preparing technical proposals, fee estimates, and client presentations. Key Qualifications & Experience • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. • Professional License: Chartered Engineer status (e.g., CEng MIStructE / MICE) or Professional Engineer (PE / SE) license required. • Experience: Minimum of 7–10+ years of progressive structural design experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure sectors. • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with advanced finite element analysis (FEA) and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro , RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer) and familiarity with BIM environments (Revit). Core Competencies • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of structural mechanics, foundation design, dynamics, and material behaviors. • Problem-Solving: Ability to solve complex structural challenges and balance structural efficiency with construction feasibility. • Leadership & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting designs to clients and managing project teams.
